PhoneGap for iPhone

March 15th, 2009 · No Comments

PhoneGap is a clever native iPhone app written in Objective C. It exposes most of the iPhone features to JavaScript, so you actually write your app in HTML/JavaScript and bundle it with the PhoneGap bridge software. Then you ship the whole thing to Apple and the put it in the App Store like a real native app. Nice, huh?

PhoneGap was originally designed to work with other mobile devices too, like Android. I just use it for the iPhone capabilities though, and have extended it to hook into a few more functions than it originally did.

Using PhoneGap, we can make iPhone apps much faster than using a native Objective C app.
